There are several different theories about the origin of Quinceanera ceremony, the most common is that the Quinceanera was the result of mixing mostly religious traditions of the Spanish conquerors and natives of Mexico. Specifically, this ceremony is about celebrating the coming of age in Spanish culture.
In this celebration, the birthday girl is accompanied by his family and friends with her Quinceaneras dress. They join primarily a religious ceremony and then go to a party. When the girl is raised, she sits traditionally in a chair which is covered in peacock flowers.
In Cuba
The custom came to the country partly due to the influence of Spanish. Although low-income families could not afford the same thing as the riches, they have also begun to celebrate Quinceanera, they called Quince. These celebrations were usually held at their own house or a more spacious home of a relative. Quinceanera were very popular in Cuba until the late 70′s, yet the practice is still relatively important today.
In Cuba the Quinceanera is often considered as one of the most important days in a young woman’s life because it marks officially the transition from child to adult. Usually the Quinceanera dress is a big white dress.
In Dominican Republic
The Quinceanera is a reason to celebrate in Dominican Republic. In this ceremony everyone is formally dressed, and just like in Cuba, it contains usually choreographers, dance, rent halls and the introduction of the birthday girl to society. In the Dominican Republic, not only the birthday girl is the focus, she chooses cousins and close friends to dance with Latin music. When the dance is over, the rest of inviters join the birthday girl on the dance floor and the party officially begins. This is extremely important in society Dominican today.
El Salvador
In El Salvador, these parts are called Fiesta Rosa, that the color of Quinceaneras dresses is pink roses. When a young Salvadoran woman turns 15, she is welcomed into the women’s ranks in this ceremony. The young lady is dressed to look like a mini wedding, starting with a white dress. During this party, she dances firstly with her father. There are three stages in the ceremony: first is the separation of her parents and her, she must blow her candles or accept flowers, and the transition, where it is no longer a teenager, but not a full woman (pink dress), and finally the appearance on the status of women (red dress).
The United States
There are some traditions that seem to be practiced almost anywhere such as changing shoes, the first dance, and being dressed in a ball gown. Some families celebrate the Quinceanera. Just as much. For other families, though, he is very religious and the young lady must have maintained a certain level of modesty and behavior to give the privilege of having a Quinceanera.
